Librarians were welcomed to the 3rd annual Sharjah International Book Fair Library Conference, November 8th-10th, 2016 at the Expo Centre in Sharjah, UAE, during the 35th Sharjah International Book Fair.  The program drew on expertise from librarians in the region as well as from the United States and other countries. The three-day conference offered programs as well as in-depth preconference institutes and a poster session on a wide range of topics for librarians from academic, public, school, government, and special libraries.

The international roster of expert presenters and keynote speakers for the 2016 library conference included Julie Todaro, ALA 2016-17 President, and Miguel Figueroa, Director of the ALA Center for the Future of Libraries. Todaro’s speech focused on “The Expert in the Library,” while Figueroa will talk about how societal trends affect planning for the library of the future.  Other topics included new trends and technologies, digital content, innovative spaces and services, marketing, assessment, rebranding and proving the value of the library, staff and leadership development, and promoting the love of reading.
