History:

Created by vote of the ALA Council at the 1973 Midwinter Meeting. By action of Council at the 1976 Midwinter Meeting, the committee was enlarged from five to NINE MEMBERS to represent as broadly as possible the library occupational concerns in such areas as recruitment, utilization, education and training, and staff welfare, with special emphasis to be placed upon the current priorities of the Association. Terms of office shall comply with the ALA bylaws governing terms of standing committees. The committee may appoint as necessary ad hoc task forces to consult and advise on specific programs. CHAIRPERSON APPOINTED ANNUALLY.

Name of the office was changed to the Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment on June 30, 1999, with corresponding changes in committee functions. (Formally known as the Office for Library Personnel Resources).

Charge:

To advise the Office for Human Resource Development and Recruitment (formerly Office for Library Personnel Resources, OLPR) on activiteis, problems, and procedures related to library concerns in such areas as recruitment, utilization, education and training, and staff welfare.

The committee will identify special areas of need or emphasis, suggest activities and programs, and stimulate programs and projects related to library personnel planning, development, and concerns.

The committee will aid in communication and cooperation with other units of ALA and with other agencies, groups, and organizations within and beyond the library profession.
