To establish a focal point within ALA that will emphasize the Association's continuing commitment to multiple literacies beyond divisional and unit membership committees; to provide an opportunity for broad representation of the membership and affiliated groups to exchange information and share ideas, identify concerns and omissions, and coordinate programming; and, to develop and promote strategies for increased literacy activity within the Association.
The Literacy Assembly is made up of representatives appointed by the leadership of ALA’s divisions, round tables, and committees.
The Literacy Assembly will facilitate communication between and among ALA’s offices, divisions, and roundtables. Assembly members will work with the Committee on Literacy to ensure that there is broad knowledge of ALA’s diverse literacy initiatives. Assembly members will identify and promote literacy programming of all kinds and all literacy-related awards and publications.
