ALA Elections

The ALA Nominating Committee for the 2027 ALA election is seeking nominees for the positions of ALA president-elect, executive board member, and councilor-at-large on the 2027 spring ballot. Learn more about the positions on this document.

• The ALA Election will open Monday, March 8, 2027 and close Wednesday, April 7, 2027. Election results will be released on Monday, April 12, 2027.

Eligibility

ALA members are eligible to run for the positions of President-Elect and Councilor-at-Large. 

For the Executive Board position, eligibility is limited to Councilors, Chairs of Standing Committees, or elected leaders of Divisions or Round Tables within the past five years.

ALA Nomination Form

All members that would like to be considered for ALA President, ALA Executive Board Member, or Councilor at Large must complete their candidate biographical form by October 31, 2026.

e-Petition Form

Individuals not selected by the Nominating Committee, or those who choose to run independently, may file an electronic petition. The petition process will open in October 1, 2026 - December 14, 2026. Click here for instructions on how to create an e-petition.

A member running for the following positions by petition must complete the following two steps by December 14, 2026:

1. Gather the required number of member e-signatures:
   • 200 signatures for ALA President
   • 100 signatures for ALA Executive Board member
   • 25 signatures for ALA Councilor at Large

2. Complete their Candidate Biographical Form
