ALA Volunteer Application System
The American Library Association carries out its work through a member-driven structure of committees and subcommittees, Divisions, Round Tables, and several other types of groups.
Each committee has a specific purpose, defined at the time it is established. Each Division and Round Table also may create committees and other working groups to carry out its work.
Volunteer Application System
ALA is excited to announce the launch of our new Volunteer Application System! Finding meaningful ways to get involved and share your time and talents is now easier than ever. You can browse volunteer opportunities across ALA (including Divisions and Round Tables), and apply through one streamlined application. Submit this online volunteer application to communicate your wish to serve and your interest to be in a particular committee of ALA, its divisions, and/or its round tables.

The application is now open, and will remain open year-round. To be considered for the next volunteer committee term (2027-2029), applicants must submit their application by their Unit's designated deadline.
For ALA Standing Committees, the deadline to submit is January 4, 2027.
Note: Some Divisions or Round Tables may follow a different timeline. Please refer to the respective Division or Round Table website to confirm the applicable deadlines.
