Assuring Quality in School Librarianship Education Programs

The American Library Association/American Association of School Librarians (ALA/AASL) develops Recognition Standards for school librarianship education programs and works with educators and practitioners from the school library community to review those programs. Through this review process, ALA/AASL has the opportunity not only to influence the pre-service education of the majority of school librarians, most of whom are educated in non-ALA-accredited programs, but also to help teachers and administrators develop appropriate expectations for school librarians in today's schools.
