Information for School Librarianship Education Programs

Eligibility for ALA/AASL National Recognition

Eligibility for ALA/AASL National Recognition is available to Master’s level school librarian preparation programs housed (1) in a regionally accredited institution (for example, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) and (2) in an ALA-accredited program or in an accredited unit (for example, a School of Education accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) or the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)). Eligibility requires that candidates must earn a master’s degree that focuses on/prepares for school librarianship.
