FAQ for YALSA's Virtual Symposium

Have questions? We have answers!

Q: Who can attend the event?
A: Everybody!  Any interested person is welcome to register and attend.

Q: What's included in the symposium registration?
A:  No live streaming sessions are included in the Virtual Symposium.  All simulcasted sessions will coordinate with the Live Symposium schedule.  All virtual sessions will be pre-recorded and made available on the virtual platform .  There will be a Virtual Galley Grab available as well as the on-demand content.  All content will be available for three months post event.   

Q: What opportunities will there be to see authors?
A: A few of the virtual sessions will have authors participating in them. 

Q: Can I get continuing education credits for participating in the Symposium?
A: YES!  Please download the certificate of attendance here.  If you need help determining how many hours to include, download this worksheet to add up your hours.  

Q: Will there be opportunities to get free books?
A: There are many galleys available for download in the Virtual Galley Grab.  

Q. Where can I find/download the program schedule? 
A.  Click here for a list of the programs. Live and Virtual Programs will have ** after the title in the in-person schedule.

Q: Will the recordings be available after the event?
A: YES!  All the pre-recorded sessions in the on-demand section in addition to recordings of a limited number of sessions presented at the Symposium will be available for three months post-event for all registered attendees.  Please note the only live streaming will be a Q&A session on Saturday Nov. 6th with the Hybrid session speakers. 

Q: Will sessions be closed captioned? 
A: YES! All sessions will be pre-recorded with closed captioned. 

Q.  How do I access the sessions? When will I receive my login information?
A.  Login information will be sent 2-3 days before the content is posted.  Once logged into the site, you will simply click on the session to view the recorded presentation.

Q.  I did not receive my login info or I’m having trouble logging in. Who do I contact?

Q: Who do I contact if there is an issue in a program that I am attending?
A: All sessions are pre-recorded and available on-demand.  If there is trouble viewing a video, please click on the EMAIL US link on the top right of the page to let us know.

Q: Is there a code of conduct for the event?  What should I do if someone is violating the code of conduct?
A: The Virtual Event is not live and does not offer interaction with other attendees.   You can email YALSA’s Executive Director at tdillard@ala.org with questions, comments, or concerns.

Q: Will there be an in-person Symposium in 2022?
A. YES!  The date and location are TBD but the Symposium falls on the first weekend in November,  November 4-6, 2022.  

Q: Does ALA/YALSA support the full scope of ideas and information presented at the Symposium?
Because the event serves as an open forum, opinions expressed and/or materials distributed by program presenters and participants do not necessarily reflect, or imply advocacy or endorsement by the American Library Association, Young Adult Library Services Association, its officers, or members.
