Get more teens reading! Young adult literature is a rapidly growing field and keeping up with the latest in YA literature can be challenging. Through this course students will learn about key young adult authors and books, and will learn how to evaluate and select materials in a range of formats. Students will also explore how to best utilize the YALSA book awards to meet the needs of their young adult community. In addition, students will learn about the important role young adult librarians play in their library and will learn how to create a vision for providing excellent service to the young adult population.
• Examine the role of young adult services in libraries and develop a personal or departmental mission
• Learn about important young adult authors and books, including classics and contemporary classics
• Learn about the various YALSA awards – how they are selected and who their target audience is
• Learn about different categories and formats of material including adult books, magazines and web content

- Teen services librarians
- Public library workers
- School library workers
- Any literacy-focused professional who works directly with teens (and/or tweens)
With a group offering, all registrants, regardless of membership status, will receive the YALSA member rate.
Group offering without CEUs - $155 per person
Group offering with CEUs - $175 per person

Registrations are accepted via online registration system, paper registration form, mail, or fax. Check, money order, purchase order or credit card must accompany registration to reserve space in this course. Fax registrations are accepted for credit card and purchase orders only.

For organizations requesting an organization-exclusive offering of the course, an application for CEU credits may be filed upon request. This four-week course may be eligible for 1 CEU credit.
