Online Course Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do the classes meet at a specific time during the week?
A: No, all of YALSA’s online courses are offered asynchronously so you can complete the coursework at a time that is most convenient for you!

Q: What is the time commitment for the courses?
A: Participants are asked to commit 10 hours to the class, which works out to two and a half hours a week.

Q: Can I receive college credit for these courses?
A: At this time YALSA is not offering courses in conjunction with an institution of higher learning, so no college course credits will be earned by participants

Q: Can I receive continuing education credit for these courses?
A: YALSA’s courses are the equivalent of 10 contact hours. Upon successful completion of the course, YALSA will issue you a certificate of completion indicating the number of contact hours. Since continuing education requirements differ by state and school district, so it is best to check with your institution as to whether they will accept YALSA’s contact hours for continuing education credit.

Q: How do I know when a class will be offered next?
A: YALSA offers its online classes on a rotating basis. If you are interesting in a class that is not currently offered please contact Linda Braun, lbraun@leonline.com. YALSA’s classes can be licensed for presentation by your organization at any time.

Q: How much do the courses cost?
A: A four week course costs: $130 for YALSA members, $175 for ALA members, $210 for non-ALA members, $100 for student members and retired members

Q: How do I register for the online courses?
A: Each course description includes a registration link. 

Q: Can I pay for the online courses with a check or purchase order?
A: Yes, if you would like to pay for a course by check or purchase order, please contact Linda Braun for a registration form. Please include a copy of the purchase order along with the registration form. Forms can be either mailed or faxed. Please be aware that your registration will not be confirmed until we have received your registration form and check or purchase order.

Q: Does YALSA provide scholarships to help defray the cost of the courses?
A: At this time, YALSA does not provide any financial assistance to students.

Q: I’ve registered for a course. How do I access it?
A: You will receive an email containing your login information one business day prior to the first day of the class.
