2001 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults
The Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults Committee, sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) of the American Library Association (ALA), announces its 2001 selections finalized at the ALA Midwinter Meeting, held January 12-17 in Washington, D.C. This year's committee focused on four subject areas: Paranormal, Cowboys and Pioneers, Laugh Aloud and Poetry. The committee's Paranormal list contains 16 works of fiction and non-fiction addressing the supernatural; Cowboys and Pioneers contains 22 books with a Western feel; Laugh Aloud comprises 25 fiction titles that range from a snicker to a guffaw; and the Poetry list contains 22 wildly variant works, including collections, single-author works and how-tos.
Bill Stack, committee chair, was enthusiastic about the selections. "I am very pleased with the quality of the titles chosen and the variety of the styles and authors represented."
