2000 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults

The Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults committee, a committee of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) of the American Library Association, is pleased to announce its 2000 selections finalized at the association's Midwinter meeting held in San Antonio. This year's committee focused on the following four topics:  Short Takes, Page Turners--Adult Novels for Teens, Romance--Passion and Heartbreak, and Self-Help.

The committee's Short Takes list contains 25 collections of short pieces of fiction and non-fiction; Page Turners--Adult Novels for Teens features 25 fast-paced novels that grab you from the first page and won't let you go until the end; Romance--Passion and Heartbreak focuses on 22 pieces of fiction that cover the diversity of romantic love and relationships; and Self-Help presents 20 popular non-fiction titles that help teens cope with their lives and answer FAQ's.

Lora Bruggeman, committee chair, notes that "We wanted to create lists that were helpful not only to librarians who work with teens, but to teens themselves."
