1999 Public Service Award

Every year at Library Legislative Day in Washington, FOLUSA presents the annual Public Service Award, honoring legislators who have worked on behalf of libraries. The 1999 awardees are Representative Earl Blumenauer and Representative Constance Morella.

Reperesentative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) is in his third term and has for the past two years worked behind the scenes with his staff member Stephanie Vance to establish and continue congressional support for the telecommunications discount for schools and libraries. Rep. Blumenauer has also co-signed a letter of support for increased approporiations for ESEA Title VI, the block grant that provides for school library materials as one of its funding options.

Representative Constance A. Morella (R-MD), has been a strong supporter of education and libraries, throughout her time in Congress. She is a chairperson of the Science Committee's Subcommittee on Technology, is a supporter of the strong support of education.
