Public Service Award
From 1989 through 2008, Friends of Libraries U.S.A. (FOLUSA) presented the Public Service Award annually to a legislator who has been especially supportive of libraries. In 2009, the award was continued when FOLUSA merged with the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates. . No award was given in 2010. The first award was presented in 1989 to Congressman Major Owens (D-NY), the only librarian serving in Congress.
