This two-color brochure asks patrons to “Be a friend to your library,” and suggests four ways to help (become a friend of the library, donate books, volunteer time, or make a bequest or another gift). An application form includes both several membership level amounts, and a section in which those who would like to volunteer may indicate their interests. The brochure is two-sided (English/French).

Friends of the Pearl (Miss.) Public Library
The Friends created an insert that was placed in the local chamber of commerce newsletter as a way to thank local businesses for their support. The full-color, two-page piece listed its 2008 “Business Associates” (who contributed $100 or more), as well as businesses that supported programs though other monetary donations or in-kind contributions. The reverse side features information about Friends-sponsored programs, National Library Week, Library Lover’s Month, and children’s programs. A membership form is included, and offers memberships for individuals ($5), clubs/organizations ($25), individual life membership ($100), business partner/associate ($100) and business partner/K Club ($1,000).

Special Project Publicity
Friends of Florence County (S.C.) Library
The library began a “South Carolina Celebrities Read” program by asking state senators and representiatives to pose with a favorite book. Posters were then designed by the library’s IT staff and given to legislators at South Carolina Library Appreciation Day. As the program’s popularity grew, authors and speakers who appeared at Friends-sponsored events contributed their photographs as well. A “Read” poster featuring Matt and Ted Lee posing with their Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook was created after an author program with the writers. Many South Carolina libraries display the more than 130 posters that have been created through the “South Carolina Celebrities Read” program.
