Newsletter & Website Advisory Committee

Committee Charge

To monitor the United for Libraries website and newsletter, The Voice for America's Libraries, for quality of content and design; to solicit articles of interest to membership; to make recommendations to United for Libraries staff for website development and use; and newsletter content and structure.

Minimum Expectations

  • Regularly monitor United for Libraries website to ensure content is readily accessible and up-to-date and report back to staff.
  • Solicit or write at least three articles for The Voice that are of interest to Trustees, Friends and/or library supporters.

Meetings

The Newsletter & Website Advisory Committee meets in person during the ALA Annual Conference just prior to the start of the term of service. The committee will also meet during the ALA Midwinter meeting and virtually as necessary.

Communications

Email: The email address to use for contacting committee members is united-news-web@lists.ala.org. Only committee members and staff liaisons can post messages to the electronic discussion group.

Conference Calls: At the request of the committee chair, one or more conference calls can be scheduled with the assistance of United for Libraries staff.

ALA Connect: Each committee has a virtual "space" in ALA Connect where committee members can post messages and share documents among committee members. This option should only be utilized if all committee members agree to using ALA Connect as their primary means of communication.

Timeline

The print newsletter is issued five times per year. A sixth issue (July/August) is produced in digital format only.

Committee members sign up to write articles for the newsletter.

Committee members sign up to write content for the website.

Reporting

The chair will complete a report for each meeting and submit to the staff liaison, to include a sign-in sheet.
