LTC Staff Resources

Tools, Resources and Opportunities for ALA Staff

Coaching Calls: Staff are invited to join the Harwood Institute's Carlton Sears on conference calls to listen in as libraries work with the "turning outward" practice and to discuss your own progress. Calls are scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. CST on the second Tuesday and second Wednesday of each month. The call-in number is (605) 562-3000; enter code 416075#.

Innovation Spaces: An Innovation Space is a gathering to share and reflect on what has been learned and experienced through the application of the Harwood approach and to talk about what might come of that learning. It's a meeting focused on learning from one another that leads to discovering new ways to get things done. Although planning and task-oriented meetings can follow, Innovation Spaces are more about reflecting, sharing learning, and identifying obstacles and opportunities to help us accelerate our progress.

Upcoming Innovation Space opportunities for staff:

  • Making ALA More Welcoming
    • The goal of this ongoing group is to "turn outward," looking at things from the perspectives/needs of the communities we serve.
    • Meetings are generally held at 2 p.m. on the last Monday of every month, usually in the Carnegie room. However, the May meeting had to be rescheduled for the following day.
      • Tuesday, May 27, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., Carnegie Room
      • Facilitator: Ron Jankowski, ALA membership director
    • Please email Ron directly to be added to this group via an Outlook invitation. There is also a "Making ALA More Welcoming" open ALA Connect group that all may join.
  • ALA Staff Listening Party/Innovation Space
    • Participants in this Innovation Space will attend the Harwood coaching call at noon CST, then use the community rhythm exercise to reflect on how our community is using these public innovation and community engagement tools.
      • Tuesday, May 13, noon: Call in to the Harwood coaching call (605-562-3000, access code 416075#) from your desk or the Carnegie Room.
      • Tuesday, May 13, 1 – 2 p.m.: Gather with colleagues in the Carnegie Room to work through the community rhythms exercise and discuss implications for our work at ALA.
      • Facilitator: Gwendolyn Prellwitz, assistant director, Office for Diversity
  • ALA Staff Innovation Space
    • The goal of this Innovation Space is to reflect on the tools and concepts from the LTC Intentionality Forum and talk about how we may be applying them in our work at ALA.
      • Thursday, May 15, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Jack Gerts Conference Room – 7th Floor
      • Facilitator: Lorelle Swader, HRDR director
