Librarianship & Library Staff Statistics

Resources on Librarian staffing, Diversity in the Library workforce, and more

NOTE: In comparing numbers from sources that provide employment information, it is important to understand the sources - and whether their results are compatible. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides employment information about librarians in the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) and also in the Labor Force Statistics from the Current Population Survey (CPS). The data in these two sources come from two different surveys. The surveys have different purposes, samples, and results. We explain the difference in this one-pager.
