Newbery and Caldecott Medal Acceptance Speeches

Q. I wasn't able to be at the Newbery/Caldecott Banquet at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.  Will the speeches be published somewhere?

A. Yes, the Newbery Medal and Caldecott Medal acceptance speeches are published annually in two periodicals; in the Summer/Fall issue of ALA's Children and Libraries: The Journal of the Association for Library Service to Children and the June/July issue of (non-ALA) Horn Book Magazine

Older speeches have been collected in regular book compilations. The most recent is In the Words of the Winners: The Newbery and Caldecott Medals, 2001-2010, a title prepared jointly by ALA's Association for Library Service to Children and The Horn Book.  We've prepared lists of the compilations for previous years in two places.  See the recent article citations and existing book titles listed by award on the Media Awards Acceptance Speeches page at the ALA Professional Tips Wiki, and then also see the list prepared in the free OCLC WorldCat library catalog online database, Books with more information on ALA's literary awards and reading lists.
