New LTR eBook Part of ALA Editions eEditions Initiative

By Patrick Hogan |

April's issue of Library Technology Reports, Gadgets and Gizmos: Personal Electronics and the Library, by Jason Griffey is available as an ebook bundle in the ALA Store. Typically, single-copy purchasers have a choice between buying print (available in the ALA Store) or, for an ebook, a PDF version from our MetaPress site. As we prepared for Griffey's webinar, we realized that it would be a fitting, if not an expectation, for the issue to be viewable on a gadget.

To make that happen, we piggybacked on ALA Editions' eEditions initiative, which offers for sale select books as a single, zipped download comprising four common ebook formats, all DRM-free: ePDF, ePub, Kindle, MobiPocket. With this mix, I think we cover most all the popular ereaders. I know within minutes of Griffey's issue being available, he had loaded it on to his still new and shiny iPad.

Conversion for ebook formats is now a standard part of ALA Editions' publishing process. If you know of an ALA Editions book that you'd like to see as an eEdition, make a comment here or send a note to editionsmarketing [at]  Keep in mind that books with a lot tables or design elements don't convert so well. As for the Library Technology Reports, the online subscription offers a searchable archive, going back nine years, with files as HTML or PDF. We may experiment more with eEditions and welcome your feedback on how you want your Reports.
