OCLC RESOURCE SHARING UPDATE
ALA MIDWINTER 2002
If you have questions or comments contact firstname.lastname@example.org or the OCLC staff member indicated below.
WEB INTERFACE TO OCLC ILL: The Web Interface to OCLC ILL was introduced to member libraries on September 18, 2001. To date over 1100 libraries have logged on to this alternative interface to OCLC ILL. What we are hearing from our member libraries is that the interface is easier to use and is ideal for the smaller libraries that find Passport difficult to use. Here is just one comment of many we have received:
The new web-based interlibrary loan system has made it possible for us to fulfill our library's obligation to loan as well as borrow from all over the country. The learning curve was immensely shorter and not nearly as steep as the Passport program appeared to be. For a 1 1/2 person library, the latter was not feasible given all our other responsibilities.
The reduction in mail time is also very noticeable now that we can request online. It's been pretty thrilling, even uplifting to loan books to libraries in New York and New Jersey from Deer Lodge, Montana.

OCLC ILLIAD IS NOW ISO ILL COMPLIANT
In November, OCLC announced that the OCLC ILLiad ILL Management System had passed ISO ILL interoperability testing with OCLC. Atlas Systems, Inc. will release the updated version of the ILLiad software that offers this ISO ILL functionality in December. Atlas Systems, Inc is now testing ISO ILL interoperability with RLG and will explore testing with the National Library of Medicine in the near future.
OTHER OCLC ILLIAD NEWS
OCLC and Atlas Systems are working with Ebsco and Ex Libris to build in links to these to systems. Atlas will work to import patron requests from EbscoHost to the ILLiad Management system. Atlas will also develop the ability to accept incoming patron interlibrary loan request from Ex Libris's SFX service. You can contact Mark Tullos via email at email@example.com for more information.
TWO LIBRARIES THE FIRST TO USE LOCAL DATA RECORD UPDATING SERVICE
Mankato State University and the University of Minnesota St. Cloud will be the first libraries to load their OCLC Union List data using the revived OCLC Local Data Record Updating service. We expect to run their updated records to the OCLC Union List service by the end of the year. You can contact Cathy Kellum via email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
OCLC TO DEMONSTRATE PROTOTYPE OF A WEB INTERFACE TO THE OCLC ILL MANAGEMENT STATISTICS
At the ALA Midwinter conference in New Orleans OCLC will be demonstrating a prototype Web interface to the ILL Management Statistics. This Web interface will provide subscribers to the Management Statistics with a graphical view of their libraries ILL activity. This project will provide basic interlibrary loan statistics to subscribing libraries, utilizing the data maintained in their ILL Management Statistics data file. You can contact Mark Tullos via email at email@example.com for more information.
ILL BLOCK PRICING FOR CATEXPRESS USERS
Starting in January OCLC will provide a nine tier block pricing model for libraries that are currently using CatExpress but are not OCLC ILL participants. These libraries will be able to purchase one of nine levels of pricing when signing up for both OCLC CatExpress and OCLC ILL. This service is available to current CatExpress users who do not use the OCLC ILL service and that would do less than 150 interlibrary loans on OCLC. The service will also be available to new OCLC member libraries that sign up for both CatExpress and OCLC ILL. You can contact Tony Melvyn via email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
OCLC ILL POLICIES DIRECTORY
The Policies Directory will be the central location for Libraries to access institutional data required for ILL activities. This database will include contact and system data as well as lending policy information for any ILL participating institution. The product will include web-based searching and profiling screens strategically linked to the web interface for OCLC ILL and the OCLC home page. Users will have an easy to use search engine for locating contact or system information on a participating ILL participant. You can contact Mark Tullos via email at email@example.com for more information.
