CISTI DOCUMENT DELIVERY – NEW DEVELOPMENTS
CISTI LAUNCHES SECURE DESKTOP DELIVERY
CISTI is pleased to announce the launch of Secure Desktop Delivery (SDD) as a new document delivery method for its customers.
The newly launched SDD makes it possible for CISTI to deliver copyright-cleared documents to its customers in electronic format. This is possible because of the implementation of a Web-based system that effectively prevents redistribution, copying and storage of documents through the use of a customized Acrobat Reader plug-in that enables the customer to view and print their documents once using a simple Web interface.
A key element in the successful launch of this new delivery method was the negotiation of agreements with major STM publishers to deliver their documents electronically. CISTI must charge copyright fees set by rights-holders for all documents sent by Secure Desktop Delivery.
"The document delivery models used by publishers and libraries had to be significantly re-engineered to meet the demands of e-Business consumers who expect information to be delivered in ways that the pre-Web models simply did not envision," explains Bernard Dumouchel, Director General of CISTI. "We have worked closely with both our clients and publishers to develop SDD as a way to meet the on-line information delivery needs of the customer while still protecting the publishers' intellectual property rights."
Currently about half of CISTI’s orders can be supplied (or filled) using SDD as the delivery method. Documents that are not covered by these agreements will be delivered using an alternate method that has been selected by the end-user. More information about Secure Desktop Delivery (SDD) is available on-line at:

CISTI TURNAROUND TIME KEEPS IMPROVING
When it comes to service and speed, CISTI delivers “best-in-class” performance. This information was derived from a recent study conducted by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) that assessed ILL/DD operations in 59 research, academic, and special libraries1.
When comparing CISTI’s performance to the participating ARL libraries, CISTI’s turnaround times (TAT), unit costs and fill rates compared favorably to other inter-library loan operations. Compared to the average time to fulfill an order, CISTI’s Document Delivery Service is more than twice as fast as the average of its peers.
CISTI relies on a robust document ordering and management system, a world-class collection and continuous workflow improvements to deliver outstanding service. CISTI can now claim 90% fulfillment of orders from its collection within 24 hours with over two-thirds of all order processed within 8 hours.
And for those clients who need the documents even faster, CISTI offers a guaranteed 2-hour turnaround time via its Urgent Document Delivery Service.
With longer hours of operations and faster turnaround, CISTI’s document delivery is the ideal choice for those who need documents quickly.

CISTI INTRODUCES ORDER TRACKER TO PROVIDE ENHANCED ACCESS TO CUSTOMER ORDERS
Order Tracker, a new tool for tracking CISTI orders, will be available on the CISTI Web Site in January 2004. Order Tracker features:
· Tracks your orders in real-time
· Easier for administrators to track orders for all their accounts
· Multiple ways to search, limit searches and sort results
· More detailed order status information is available
Wherever an order is in our system, you will be able to track it. There will be a gradual transition phase whereby both the new Order Tracker and the current List Your Orders services will be available for searching orders. At the end of the transition phase, List Your Orders will be phased out and fully replaced by Order Tracker.
New enhancements that will appear in the coming months are the ability to cancel an order from Order Tracker and the ability to resubmit a cancelled order. Note that currently this feature is not available for Custom Service orders for which the status can be checked by contacting CISTI directly by phone, fax or email.
For a demonstration of Order Tracker, please visit the CISTI Booth #1012.
