Midwinter 1999 Meeting Minutes
Saturday, January 30th, 2 to 4 PM
Our committee met to work out the logistics of our discussion group the following day. We also began selecting a topic for our program for annual 2000.
Monday, February 2nd, 9:30 to 11 AM
The committee formed a basic program idea for the 2000 annual. We will create a program around the concept of the library as a physical place. The program will (tentatively) be titled: "A Place for Place?: The Non-Virtual Library in a Virtual Age." We may ask a panel of speakers to address why the physical library building is still an important part of what makes up a library. A psychologist may be asked to speak about why people appreciate a physical place where they can congregate. A library director whose library system is constructing or has just completed a new building may be asked to speak about why s/he feels a physical place is still relevant during an era of remote computer access, etc. The details of this program will be worked out during annual 1999.
