What is the RSS E-forum?
The RSS e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The e-forum discussion is similar to other e-mail discussion lists: interested participants register their email addresses with the list, and then receive messages and communicate with other participants through an email discussion.
Discussions have typically focused on topics of interest to RSS/RUSA members and public services librarians, but many would be of interest to all areas of librarianship. Discussion on the list is limited to the e-forum topics.
What is the topic for the Spring E-forum?
Reference services have evolved over the years, and current best practices inform the broadening of library services by building relationships with campus units and cross-training staff to create a synergistic combination that redefines the research experience of our community by meeting them where they are. It is therefore critical to look at each interaction as a form of outreach that can lead to additional opportunities for collaboration, instruction and engagement. Join us for this forum where we will discuss best practices, tips and tricks in expanding reference services beyond library walls.
Join us on March 10th and 11th at 10am EST/9am CDT/8am MDT/7am PDT for our exciting discussion!
Who are the moderators?
Laureen Cantwell is the Distance Services Librarian at Colorado Mesa University. Her work focuses on the connection between reference and instruction, increasing the visibility of librarians who provide reference and maintaining detailed statistics to help inform outreach efforts.
George Bergstrom is the Instructional Librarian at Sullivan University in Louisville. He has provided reference and instructional services for over a decade and views reference an opportunity to reach users at their point of need.
Sarah Brandt is Instructional Services Librarian and the Reference Co-Coordinator at the University of West Georgia. She brought librarians back to the reference desk and views the reference interaction as the perfect moment to highlight what the library has to offer.
Who can I contact for additional information or if I have any technical issues?
Please contact the RSS Management of Reference Committee Chair, Cinthya Ippoliti at: email@example.com
