GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, JUNE 2005-JUNE 2007
GOAL 1. PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES (addresses RUSA Strategic Plan item 1)
Objective 1. Develop and deliver conference programs, preconferences, and discussions addressing current issues affecting frontline reference and user services librarians, staff, and managers.
Objective 2. Develop and deliver practical online tutorials, courses, and other tools for frontline reference and user services librarians, staff, and managers.
Objective 3. Post conference program and discussion group resources (PPTs, handouts, discussion summaries) on the RSS webpages for access by frontline reference and user services librarians, staff, and managers who are unable to attend a conference.
Objective 4. Widely publicize the availability of RSS professional development resources for frontline reference and user services librarians, staff, and managers.
Objective 5. Monitor reference literature and compile bibliographies of relevant reference research.
GOAL 2. BUILD MEMBERSHIP AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARTICIPATION IN RSS (addresses RUSA Strategic Plan items 3 and 5)
Objective 1. Increase both librarian and support staff membership in RSS.
Objective 2. Widely publicize membership opportunities and benefits.
Objective 3. Provide opportunities for new and continuing RSS members to get involved easily in RSS committees and discussion groups.
Objective 4. Develop guidelines and opportunities for virtual membership/participation in RSS committees and discussion groups.
GOAL 3. DOCUMENT, EVALUATE, AND IMPROVE RSS EFFECTIVENESS (addresses RUSA Strategic Plan item 4)
Objective 1. Require all RSS committees and discussion groups to provide reports to the RSS Executive Committee detailing their activities and accomplishments and addressing how these contributed to RSS Goals and Objectives.
Objective 2. Post all reports on webpages for each RSS unit.
Objective 3. Review the RSS Goals and Objectives annually, assess accomplishments, and determine if any revisions are needed.
Objective 4. Review the RSS website to make sure all pages have been updated and mandate that all RSS committees and discussion groups review their webpages and add as much content as possible.
Objective 5. Develop a fuller position description for the RSS Webmaster/Archivist and explore the possibility of creating a separate position for RSS Archivist and a Web Advisory Taskforce to assist the RSS Webmaster.
Objective 6. Use a coordinated approach to communicate suggestions for improvement of RSS website accessibility and navigability to RUSA and

GOAL 4. PROVIDE RSS PUBLICATIONS AND GUIDELINES
Objective 1. Identify all print and electronic publications and guidelines originating with RSS and provide easy centralized access to them on the RSS website.
Objective 2. Encourage all RSS committees to develop new and revised publications (including electronic and print articles and monographs) to address the needs of frontline reference and user services librarians, staff, and managers.
Objective 3. Aggressively publicize the availability of electronic and print RSS publications and guidelines and document their sales and use.
