Best Historical Materials
Each year the History Section's Historical Materials Committee continues its project to honor outstanding publications, print and online, in the field of history. The Committee's goal is to encourage both the work of scholars in the bibliography of history and the publishers who support this important activity.
History-L serves as a quick communication tool to serve the needs of History Section members and promote the organization. It communicates ALA conference programs and activities relevant to History Section members, and informs members not able to attend the conference the content of History Section programs. It serves as a medium for professional information or ideas relating to teaching, promotes educational or training activities relevant to History Section members, and serves as a “place” to discuss resources or seek assistance from History Section colleagues. H-HistBibl is an international network for librarians, archivists, curators, and scholars interested in the practice and study of bibliographic and library services in support of historical study and teaching. It is affiliated with the Association for the Bibliography of History [ABH] and the History Section of the American Library Association. H-HistBibl seeks to provide a discipline-wide electronic forum for the sharing of questions relating to history librarianship.
Genealogy & Local History Discussion Group
The group provides an informal forum for the exchange of information about library services in local history and genealogy. Meetings may be held in a library or archive in the conference city having strong history or genealogy collections. The group creates and fosters an environment for creativity and growth by acting as a catalyst for new ideas and problem-solving initiatives.
History Librarians Discussion Group
The group introduces and considers a wide variety of topics of interest to librarians providing services to historians in all types of libraries.
