This well-organized resource, which deals with all aspects of law, can be searched by legal topic, type of resource (case, statute, regulation), or by jurisdiction. It includes general information about legal issues, categorized links to other sites, forms, news, codes and cases, a legal search engine, and message boards. The "Small Business Center" section contains helpful descriptions of the many legal issues affecting small businesses.

This wildly popular service from the Government Printing Office (GPO) "provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government. The information provided on this site is the official, published version and the information retrieved from GPO Access can be used without restriction, unless specifically noted. This free service is funded by the Federal Depository Library Program and has grown out of Public Law 103-40, known as the Government Printing Office Electronic Information Enhancement Act of 1993" (from the GPO Access "About" page). This is the official site for regulatory materials such as the Federal Register and Code of Federal Regulations; critical Congressional products such as the Congressional Record and Congressional Bills; judicial and administrative decisions; and business materials, such as Commerce Business Daily (CBDNet).

Provides a non-commercial forum for the sharing of legal information and ideas. Along with daily legal news, this site offers Subject Guides, edited by law professors, which are mini-portals to peer-reviewed online legal resources on subjects such as commercial and tax law. The Topical Guides section contains special guides on legal issues of current interest. A recent example is the " U.S v. Microsoft Antitrust Case" Guide, which includes links to "Rulings/Orders," "Key Filings," and other authoritative "Related Sites."

Good multi-purpose place to get an exhaustive array of basic legal information on all topics. Provides uniquely helpful search tools such as the Multi Resource Legal Research pages, which permit searching of various legal resources (such as several states, or courts) simultaneously. The Q & A section provides easy-to-understand answers to basic questions covering such subjects as bankruptcy, patents and trademarks, and copyright law.

A component of the Free Management Library hosted on the Web by the Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits (St. Paul, MN), this rich and efficiently concise meta-site covers such topics as Advertising and Marketing Law, Business Contracts, Employee Law, Intellectual Property, and Enterprise Law, among others.

This well-designed site contains an amazing amount of helpful information. The U. S. Code, current Federal laws, and the collections of all recent opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court are provided in an easy to access manner. The "Law about..." section provides topical overviews and then links to sites offering court decisions, statutes, regulations, and other legal materials. Subjects covered include many aspects of commercial transactions, enterprise, and employment law. Also, a useful guide to drafting legal documents is available in the "Law about ..." section on "Legal Writing."

This general information portal was named the "Best Reference Site" by Forbes magazine in its 2000 "Best of the Web" round-up. The "Law Libraries" link provides one-stop access to many of the sites included in this bibliography.

Provides legal information for the lay person. Nolo's Encyclopedia contains helpful information on topics such as estate planning, employment, small business, immigration, and intellectual property. Not surprisingly, frequent references are made to Nolo Press publications, but the publications are useful, and there is enough helpful information available for free to recommend checking out this site.

This meta-site for environmental law comes from the Center for Environmental Legal Studies of the Pace University School of Law in White Plains, NY. Created by the Small Business Administration and the National Partnership for Reinventing Government, this is a one-stop access point for information and services the government provides for the business community. Includes helpful links to government information on legal issues ranging from international trade law to workplace discrimination.

Highly user-focused site provides links to government agencies that deal with consumer protection, food, health, product safety, money, and transportation. Related laws and regulations can be found.

This no-frills site, produced by the Washburn University School of Law, consists of a simple alphabetical chart of commonly researched legal topics, from "small" themes (such as court rules) to "big themes" (such as city codes).
