Dr. Paul Wasserman

This award is granted in recognition of outstanding contributions to business librarianship as an educator, researcher, and author of many seminal writings and classic works, not only in the area of business administration, but in librarianship as a whole.

In a distinguished career Dr. Wasserman has experienced not only the practitioner's challenges in the public library setting, but also the challenge of developing a strong educational program in librarianship at Cornell, and in many other programs, most notably and recently as Dean, College of Library and Information Services at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Dr. Wasserman's numerous publications include many classic reference works, including such titles as Commodity Price Sources, Statistics Sources, Consultants and Consulting Organizations, and the Encyclopedia of Business Information Sources, which are central to business librarianship.

Finally, as a leading educator Dr. Wasserman has developed innovative teaching seminars and has helped to motivate generations of librarians entering our profession. As a library professional he has also exercised a powerful influence internationally through his teaching and participation in the work of such bodies as the Organization of American States.
