Exploring Local Business and Industry Data

The webinar will share what the presenter has learned from her unique experience of aggregating more than 200 data programs related to local business and industries. The webinar intends to answer the questions such as "who creates local data?" "What data is available at more granular, below state level?", "What are the hidden treasures that were often neglected by data researchers?", what are the strategies for finding local business statistics and data?"

The webinar will offer a fresh perspective and a holistic view on business and industry data below the state level and will enrich the audience's experiences with local data. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • Have more structured understanding of business and industry data below state level
  • Learn new business and industry data sources that can help with business reference and instructions
  • Learn strategic approaches to find local business statistics and data
  • Be more confident in offering business data reference services and instructions

Who Should Attend

Data Librarians, Business Librarians, or any librarian or researcher who is interested in knowing more about business and industry data and beyond. The content will expand their knowledge base and enrich their experience with local and community data. 


Grace Liu  is the business librarian at Fogler Library, University of Maine. She has extensive research experience in business and industry. She collaborated with six librarians on a Maine Data Discovery Project and collected Maine related research data across 12 subject areas. 

Ms. Liu has completed the business section of the Maine Business Science and Technology Library (MBSTL) portal and created 23 library guides (with more than 2000 sources) for small businesses covering a wide range of topics from starting a business, to running and growing a business in Maine.
