Charge

To consider issues, problems, and trends relative to the development and evaluation of popular materials collections and readers' advisory services in all types of libraries; to develop guides and guidelines for collection development of popular materials collections; to encourage research on popular materials collections and their use in libraries; to be a forum for discussion about popular materials and readers' advisory services in libraries; to identify continuing education needs of librarians and library support staff working in this area and to disseminate the information to them; to coordinate its work with all relevant ALA committees and sections on matters of mutual concern and interest.

Get Involved

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the committee. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out an application form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1.
