National conferences give new ALA members a chance to meet other librarians, discover new directions in librarianship, and forge connections with librarians throughout the country and the world. Members of the ALA New Members Round Table have a way to get funding!
Apply for the Shirley Olofson Memorial Award ( http://www.ala.org/ala/nmrt/applyforfunds/shirleyolofson.htm) and you may receive a $1000 check, awarded at ALA Annual 2008, to help defray the cost of attendance. Shirley Olofson was a well-respected former president of the New Members Round Table who died during her term of office. This award was founded in her honor to help new members of ALA grow and flourish as librarians.
