About NMRT

President's Welcome

Welcome to the New Members Round Table (NMRT)! We have over 1000 members representing every aspect of librarianship, from nearly every state and even some foreign countries. NMRT is a roundtable for those who have been members of ALA for fewer than ten years and are looking to augment their involvement in ALA. In addition to providing you with the means to develop as a new professional through committee work, conference programs, and other year-round services, NMRT provides numerous venues for you to make connections with colleagues, learn from mentors, and even form lifelong friendships.

NMRT can help jump-start your library career like few other groups can. As my presidential theme “You Belong Here” implies, NMRT seeks to welcome you and help you find your niche in ALA. Feel welcome to join us and make NMRT your guide into the larger world of ALA and professional librarianship!

Mission

Our mission is to help those who have been association members less than ten years become actively involved in the association and the profession. The goals are fourfold: (1) to structure formal opportunities for involvement and/or training for professional association committee experiences on the national, state and local levels; (2) to provide a wide variety of programs to assist, encourage, and educate those new to the association and the profession; (3) to offer a variety of leadership training and opportunities to help those approaching the end of their NMRT eligibility make the transition to future positions in the association and the profession, and; (4) to develop and implement ongoing programs for library school students which encourage professional involvement and networking.
