Opportunity to Serve on the ALA Conference Program Coordinating Team
The LRRT Steering Committee is looking for a volunteer to serve as the LRRT representative to the ALA Conference Program Coordinating Team through the Round Table Coordinating Assembly. LRRT is one of the few remaining Round Tables that have not had a member serve in this ( more)

Keep an eye on your incoming postal mail. LRRT will be sending out a notice to the membership of a proposed change to our By-Laws allow email balloting rather than just paper elections. The vote for this proposed change will be on the LRRT ballot, which members will receive in March, 2007. ( more)

I am proud and excited to be the new Chair of the Library Research Round Table Steering Committee for 2006/2007 and to follow in such illustrious footsteps. I have found my library research colleagues across the country to be generous, committed, and a source of inspiration.
As Chair of this year’s Steering Committee, I would like to thank outgoing Steering Committee members Steve Wiberley, Vicky Gregory and Alma Dawson for their dedicated service to LRRT. I also have the pleasure of welcoming new Steering Committee members John Carlo Bertot (Vice-Chair/Chair Elect), Linda Cooper (Secretary/Treasurer), and Jennifer Lang (Member at Large).
Congratulations to Letitia Earvin of the ALA Office of Research and Statistics on her appointment as the ALA Staff Liaison to the Library Research Round Table! Letitia has provided us with capable support in the past, for which we are grateful, and we all look forward to working with her in her expanded role. Denise Davis will continue to attend LRRT Steering Committee meetings as she is able and will continue to maintain her interest and involvement in our activities.

This proposed change, approved by the Steering Committee, must be approved by the membership in order to take effect. Read on for further details and be sure to vote “yes” in March.

The American Library Association now permits Round Tables with a membership that is equal to or greater than 1% of ALA membership to elect their own representative to ALA Council. Our Round Table has 1,170 members, making us eligible. The new LRRT representative to ALA Council will represent the interests of our membership. Ingenta Award: The deadline for nominations for the 2007 Ingenta Award is March 31, 2007. The Ingenta Award will now be handled by a dedicated committee rather than the entire LRRT Steering Committee. The new committee will be chaired by each year’s LRRT Past-Chair. Mentoring Committee: Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Lynn Westbrook, the Library Research Round Table now has a Mentoring Committee. Members include Lynn Westbrook, Chair; JoBell Whitlatch, Denise Agosto, Christie Koontz, and Sharon Bostick. The primary purpose of the Research Mentor program is to promote and support the development of substantive and rigorous research in information and library studies through the personalized work of mentors.
