Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians
The ALA Public Programs Office, in collaboration with the National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland, hosted a tour to 61 libraries of a traveling exhibition celebrating the lives and achievements of women in medicine since they first gained admission to American medical schools 150 years ago.
The 61 libraries selected for the tour hosted the exhibition for a six-week period between August 2005 and November 2010. Participating libraries were expected to present at least two programs for library patrons and community members that featured a lecture/discussion by a scholar on exhibition themes. All showings of the exhibition were free and open to the public.
The traveling exhibition was made possible by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health Office of Research on Women’s Health , with additional support provided by the American Medical Women's Association .
