PLA’s Dynamic Planning Institute delivers best practices in strategic planning for libraries with a unique focus on simple, low-cost planning. Participants will learn how to create a dynamic strategic plan, in a timely manner, which will serve as a living document and create actionable pathways for decision making, community involvement, and funding priorities.
Strategic planning doesn’t need to be a tedious, expensive, time-intensive process, resulting in a static document that becomes rapidly out of touch with changing community needs. Dynamic planning creates strategies that are truly adaptive. A dynamic plan brings clarity and organizational effectiveness while providing nimble solutions during uncertain times, allowing libraries to meet change while it is happening.
As a result of the training, participants will know how to:
- Organize, design, and implement dynamic strategic planning in a library environment while creating a living and actionable plan
- Incorporate current methodologies for assessing and engaging community and staff, establishing priorities, and assessing and managing risk
- Utilize key time saving principles, including using existing data, quick methods for getting input and buy-in from staff and stakeholders, and incorporating existing community plans
- Apply best practices in dynamic library planning using the most updated methods and tools for communicating plans and achieving continual results
Who Should Attend
The Dynamic Planning Institute is recommended for public library staff directly involved in the creation and implementation of the library’s strategic plan, including, but not exclusive to: directors, managers, supervisors, and department heads. This program will most benefit library staff with beginning to intermediate knowledge of strategic planning issues, and offers particularly high value to those in smaller libraries, rural libraries, or libraries lacking the time or staff to devote to an expensive, large-scale planning effort.
