Make an Investment In America's Libraries - Become a Library Champion

ALA Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels discusses the impact of libraries (Video)

The Campaign for America's Libraries is a multi-year public education and advocacy campaign sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries in the 21st century. The Campaign now supports thousands of libraries across the nation by fostering public awareness on the extensive range of resources and services available at  public, school, academic and special libraries nationwide.

ALA’s Library Champion program was launched by a select group of individual, corporate and foundation supporters who joined together to form a broad-based group to advocate for The Campaign for America’s Libraries and its @ your library ®brand.  When an individual, company or foundation supports The Campaign for America’s Libraries, they make a positive impact on all types of libraries and the lives of their community members every single day.  ALA considers supporters of the Campaign—Library Champions—among our greatest proponents.

Revenue from your annual gift helps every child, young adult or adult who walks through a door at a library or links to their online resources from home or school and provides critical operating support across an array of Campaign for America's Libraries programs such as National Library Week and Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Corporate and Foundation Library Champion members can enjoy a strategically designed experience created in consultation to meet your company’s specific goals and can be comprised of selected thank you membership and conference benefits.

In recognition of gifts made to The Campaign for America's Libraries, the following levels will be listed in the ALA Annual Report of Giving.

Why Support ALA, The Campaign for America's Libraries, and Libraries?

Supporting the efforts of ALA on behalf of our nation's libraries means supporting a cornerstone of American life: access to information is essential to our democracy, our freedom of speech and to continuous, lifelong learning for all people through library and information services of every type. With the generous support of our Library Champions, ALA is able to provide free resources to libraries on their value and how all libraries benefit their local community in so many ways.

Libraries support families and workers in a challenging economy.  As the economy continues its slow recovery, libraries nationwide continue to play an important role in communities everywhere, as people turn to them for free entertainment, to connect to the Internet and look for jobs. Read more.

Libraries are a cornerstone of education. A survey commissioned by the Texas Library Association shows that people view their libraries as a good value for their tax dollars, and support more funding for public and school libraries. 99% of those surveyed believe school libraries are an essential part of education. 94% agree that school librarians are critical to student achievement. A 93% majority supports legislation that would require public schools to provide a school library and librarian that meet statewide standards. Read more.

Libraries build community. Libraries are uniquely local institutions that reflect and sustain their individual communities. Far more than collections of books, today's libraries are places to meet, use a computer, view an exhibit or get help with homework. Working in partnership with government, education, business and civic organizations, libraries of all types - public, school, college and university - provide services and programs that support literate, productive and informed communities.
