New NMRT President Moonlights as ALA Executive Board Member

By Amanda Roberts, NMRT Fundraising Coordinator

In July, Courtney Young began not only her term as NMRT President, but as ALA Executive Board member. Courtney was one of two new members elected by ALA Council at the 2009 ALA Midwinter meeting held in Denver. She holds the honor of receiving the highest number of votes in the election.

The ALA Executive Board consists of the ALA President, President-elect, Immediate Past President, Treasurer, Executive Director, and eight members elected by Council from its membership for three-year terms. The Board acts for Council in the administration of established policies and programs, and works with Council committees and members to develop and set priorities. While the ALA Executive Director manages the daily operation of the association, the Executive Board makes recommendations with respect to policy and operation.

Courtney has served on ALA Council as the New Members Round Table councilor (2005-2008) and then as Councilor-at-Large (2008-2009). She also recently received tenure in her position as Reference Librarian and Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at Pennsylvania State University, Beaver Campus.

New Members Round Table will greatly benefit from Courtney’s leadership, as well as her knowledge of and high profile within ALA. She is also an inspiration for all NMRTers: in just 7 short years, she has moved up to one of the most elite positions within the organization. Please join me in congratulating Courtney for all her achievements!
