Advantages of using MatchMARC over OCLC’s Connexion will be highlighted. Examples of workflows made possible by the spreadsheet environment and MARC record delivery will be given. OCLC membership is needed to use this tool.
Core is pleased to announce the release of a new web course on the introduction to fundamental concepts of digital library projects. This course was developed by Jennifer Roper, Director, Digital Strategies and the University of Virginia Library in Charlottesville, Virginia, Gretchen Gueguen, an archivist and librarian specializing in digital libraries and technology and an adjunct professor for the Clarion University, and Ivey Glendon, Manager for Metadata Analysis & Design at the University of Virginia Library. Jennifer Roper and Gretchen Gueguen will lead the course.

Closing, opening, and reopening academic libraries during a pandemic requires library decision-makers to take on new roles, learn new things, and apply new knowledge to decision making for their facilities and employees. These decision-makers find themselves in need of real-time information — not only about their own institution’s practices, but also how other libraries are responding. Some are thrust into leadership positions on their own campuses. Others struggle for guidance.
More often than not, assessment techniques are learned on the job rather than taught in a MLIS degree program. While some are easy to learn without formal training, focus groups can be especially challenging to both facilitator and participants.
The former ALCTS Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) for several years have created oral histories of commercial binders and preservation librarians which are available on the American Library Association Institutional Repository (ALAIR).
