CHICAGO – At the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, the Public Library Association (PLA) will be hosting several meeting and updates valuable for public library professionals. Some of the highlights include:  

2013 Notable Books, Reading List, Outstanding Reference Sources and other adult book awards will be unveiled at Midwinter

CHICAGO — The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) will unveil the winners of its annual adult reading and reference awards on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, including the Notable Books List for fiction, nonfiction and poetry, the Reading List for top genre fiction, the Listen List: Outstanding Audiobook Narration, the Outstanding Reference Sources List and several other prestigious literary awards.

United for Libraries and ALA Conference Services to sponsor Spotlight on Adult Literature at Midwinter Meeting

PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries, along with ALA Conference Services, will sponsor a Spotlight on Adult Literature from 2 to 4 p.m. Pacific time on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Washington State Convention Center Exhibit Hall at the 2013 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.

Participating publishers will host book and galley giveaways, author signings and more.

United for Libraries to present 'Nuts & Bolts for Friends and Trustees' at ALA Midwinter Meeting

PHILADELPHIA –  United for Libraries  will present “Nuts & Bolts for Friends and Trustees” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PDT on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Sheraton Seattle, Redwood, during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.

ALA to announce the next classics in children’s and young adult literature and media

CHICAGO — Children’s and young adult authors, illustrators and publishing groups are waiting in anticipation for the 2013 American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Award announcements.   The ALA will announce 19 awards at 8 a.m. PT on Jan. 28 from the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.  The awards include the esteemed John Newbery Medal, Randolph Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King Book Awards and Michael L. Printz Award.

Erin McKean at ALCTS President’s Program in Chicago

CHICAGO — Erin McKean, founder of Wordnik.com and the former editor-in-chief of American Dictionaries for Oxford University Press, is the featured speaker at the President’s Program of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS).  The President’s Program is at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1,  during the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago.

Accepting appointments for free career counseling and resume reviews

CHICAGO - Free career counseling sessions and resume review help will be provided from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27, 2013 in the ALA JobLIST Placement Center during the American Library Association’s (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.  The sessions will be held in the JobLIST Placement Center which will be located on Level 4, Hall E, in the front of Aisle 300 of the Washington State Convention Center.

CHICAGO - As part of its continuing efforts to help job seekers and employers make connections, the ALA JobLIST Placement Center will once again host an Open House from 10:30 a.m. - noon on Sunday, Jan. 27th in the JobLIST Placement Center during the upcoming Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.  The Placement Center will be located on Level 4, Hall E, in the front of Aisle 300 of the Washington State Convention Center.
