Don’t miss the Advocacy Corner at the ALA Membership Pavilion during 2012 Annual Conference

CHICAGO —Influencing library boards, using statistics to make the case and privatization are among the topics to be discussed at the Advocacy Corner at the ALA 2012 Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.  It takes place on the afternoons of Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 at the ALA Membership Pavilion (#1939).

Dr. Ken Haycock, Stephanie Vance and Peter Pearson are among the speakers who will host short discussions, workshops and Q&A sessions designed to improve advocacy skills and showcase advocacy ideas and initiatives from all types of libraries.

AASL to announce 2012 Best Websites for Teaching and Learning at ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim

CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will announce the recipients of the 2012 Best Websites for Teaching and Learning during the ALA 2012 Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.  The announcement will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, in room 213D of the Anaheim Convention Center.  For more information on this and other AASL events at ALA Annual Conference, visit www.ala.org/aasl/annual.

McRae wins LexisNexis Outstanding Friend Conference Grant

PHILADELPHIA —  The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has awarded the 2012 LexisNexis Outstanding Friend Conference Grant to Mary Alicia McRae, secretary of the Friends of the Salinas (Calif.) Public Libraries. McRae will receive $850 plus full conference registration to attend the 2012 ALA Annual Conference June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif. A formal presentation to McRae will be made at the conference.

Association Options Fair provides opportunities to engage

CHICAGO — The Association Options Fair, held from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. on Sunday June 24 in the Anaheim (Calif.) Marriott Salons E and F, will provide opportunities for attendees to engage with leaders from throughout the association and profession.   All 2012 ALA Annual Conference attendees are invited to attend.

ALCTS presents RDA at Annual

CHICAGO—RDA (Resource Description and Access), the new cataloging standard, will be implemented in the U.S. national libraries in March 2013. There has been much written and discussed about RDA and the implementation by libraries across the U.S. and internationally.

ALTAFF to host ‘Transforming Libraries through Frontline Advocacy’ at ALA Annual Conference

PHILADELPHIA —  The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), will host “Transforming Libraries through Frontline Advocacy”  from 1:30-3:30 p.m. PDT at the Anaheim Convention Center, 206A, on Sunday, June 24 at the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim.

PR Forum 2012: Implementing new technologies @ your library

CHICAGO –  Tom Peters, assistant dean for strategic initiatives at Illinois State University, will speak at the 2012 PR Forum from 8-10 a.m., June 24, at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Peters will discuss how to implement emerging technologies, including mobile technology, in your library through collaboration. The program will also address how technologies can be implemented successfully with attention to time and budget management.
