GraphiCon—the mini-comic-con inside 2013 ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO - For the second year, GraphiCon will inspire ALA Annual Conference attendees to innovate and raise the profile of graphic novels and comics in their library or school. A range of programs and author events, plus “Artist Alley,” the Graphic Novel Pavilion and Graphic Novel Stage in the exhibit hall will offer information and creative inspiration, as well as chances to ask questions and discuss ideas.  To identify relevant events, look for the “GraphiCon” cluster in the conference scheduler.

PHILADELPHIA – United for Libraries will present its Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 1 during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.

Melanie Benjamin, Mark Billingham, Jeffrey Deaver, Wally Lamb and Jojo Moyes will discuss their writing life and forthcoming books. Enjoy tea, finger sandwiches and a variety of sweet treats. A book signing will follow, with some books given away free and others available for purchase at a generous discount.

United for Libraries names Johnson and Mull ALA Trustee Citation recipients

PHILADELPHIA —  United for Libraries has named G. Victor Johnson and Beverly Mull as recipients of the ALA Trustee Citation.

The ALA Trustee Citation, established in 1941 to recognize public library trustees for distinguished service to library development, honors the best contributions and efforts of the estimated 60,000 American citizens who serve on library boards. 

Ross Mathews added to the line-up of United for Libraries’ 'The Laugh’s On Us, sponsored by SAGE'

PHILADELPHIA – Ross Mathews of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” has been added to the line-up for “The Laugh’s On Us, sponsored by SAGE," featuring author and standup comedian Paula Poundstone, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.

The full line-up also includes Selena Coppock, Nicole Knepper, Sara Levine and Paul Rudnick.
