Anne Enright, Robert K. Massie, first recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The American Library Association (ALA) is proud to announce the first recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, funded through a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Anne Enright’s "The Forgotten Waltz" received the medal for fiction and Robert K. Massie’s "Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman" received the nonfiction prize. The medals recognize the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published the previous year in the United States.

E-books, school library resolution, privacy, book awards among highlights of ALA Annual Conference

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference, held June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif, saw a unanimous resolution in support of  the value of school libraries passed by ALA Council, as well as discussions about e-books, privacy, library advocacy and other important issues.

Latino children’s authors and illustrators to receive prestigious 2012 Pura Belpré Award at ALA Annual Celebración

Pasadena, Calif. — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association and REFORMA (the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking, an ALA affiliate), will host the annual Celebración! to honor the 2012 medal and honor winners of the Pura Belpré Award during the annual conference of the American Library Association. The event will take place from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012 in the Grand Ballroom Center in the Disneyland Hotel.

Mobile app for ALA Annual Conference Scheduler released

CHICAGO — Attendees can keep track of everything while on the go at the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim. The new mobile app for the Conference Scheduler puts all the information people need right at their fingertips, including their existing schedule, list of exhibitors and notes from the full Scheduler site. They just have to log in with the same username and password as on the Scheduler to access all of their existing conference information.
