Program proposals for 2013 ALA Virtual Conference accepted through Feb. 17

CHICAGO — Do you have a creative approach to share? Did you enhance an existing service?  Have you launched a new project that has transformed service at your library? The 2013 ALA Virtual Conference will focus on important issues for “Mapping Transformation” on July 24-25, 2013, and you can be part of it. Submit your proposal for an engaging 45-minute program by the end of the day on Sunday, Feb 17, 2013.

January 14—new date for opening 2013 ALA Annual Conference registration and housing

CHICAGO — Registration and housing for 2013 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, June 27-July 2, are now set to open Monday, January 14 at 9:00 a.m. CST. Please ignore any communication you may have received today from our registration and housing systems, sent before the new date of January 14 was confirmed.  We’re sorry for this one-week delay from the originally announced date and appreciate your patience.

Mobile app for ALA Midwinter Meeting Scheduler released

CHICAGO - Attendees can plan and keep track of everything while on the go at the 2013 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle. The mobile app for the Scheduler puts all the information people need right at their fingertips, including their existing schedule, list of exhibitors and notes from the full Scheduler site. They just have to log in with the same username and password as on the Scheduler to access all of their existing conference information.

Explore Chicago architectural landmark at Annual Conference and support Cultural Communities Fund

CHICAGO — Attendees of the 2013 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago will have the opportunity to spend an evening exploring an original Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house, while supporting the ALA Cultural Communities Fund (CCF).  Tickets will be available for a remarkable evening at Chicago's renowned Robie House on the University of Chicago campus at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. on Monday, July 1.

EBSCO Information Services offers seven conference scholarships to attend ALA's Annual Conference

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) and EBSCO are partnering to offer seven scholarships for librarians to attend the 2013 Annual Conference. The meeting takes place June 27 – July 2, 2013, and offers an opportunity for continuing education, meetings and interaction with colleagues.

Each EBSCO scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000.  The scholarship money is to be used for conference registration, travel and expenses.

Call for International Papers and Projects Session

CHICAGO — The American Library Association, International Papers and Projects Committee invites proposals for presentations to be made at the next ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.  Presentations will be delivered at the International Papers and Projects Session scheduled for June 29, 2013. 

EBSCO Information Services offers five conference scholarships to attend ALA's Midwinter Meeting

ALA Council resolution opposes voter restrictions

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The American Library Association (ALA) Council has passed a resolution opposing voter restrictions.

The resolution, passed at the ALA Annual Conference, held June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif., opposes voter ID laws, restrictions on voter registration, cuts to early voting and any other laws resulting in the restriction of lawful access to voting.

It also encourages libraries, librarians and library support staff to “provide information to citizens to mitigate these restrictions should they remain in effect on Election Day.”
