'Brotherhood' project from G. W. Carver Middle School receives AASL Collaborative School Library Award

CHICAGO – Deborah Floyd, Stephanie Stargardt and Joshua Forbes from G. W. Carver Middle School in Chester, Virginia, are the recipients of the 2016 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Collaborative School Library Award for their collaborative project “Brotherhood, A Novel: Making Connections to Richmond from Reconstruction Through Present Day.” Sponsored by Upstart, the $2,500 award recognizes school librarian and teacher collaboration during the development and implantation of a curriculum-supporting program using school library resources.

Kate Lechtenberg receives AASL Frances Henne Award

CHICAGO – Kate Lechtenberg, school librarian in Ankeny Community Schools located in Des Moines, Iowa, is the recipient of the 2016 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Frances Henne Award.

Kathleen Procopio receives AASL Distinguished School Administrators Award

CHICAGO – Kathleen Procopio, principal of Millville (N.J.) High School, is the recipient of the 2016 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Distinguished School Administrator Award. Sponsored by ProQuest, the $2,000 award recognizes and honors a school administrator who has made worthy contributions to the operations of an exemplary school library and to advancing the role of the school library in the educational program.

James Patterson recognized with AASL Crystal Apple

Michelle Reed wins the 2016 Carroll Preston Baber Research Grant

Steven A. Knowlton receives the 2016 Justin Winsor essay award from the Library History Round Table

CHICAGO — The Library History Round Table has awarded Steven A. Knowlton the 2016 Justin Winsor Prize. The award, $500 and a certificate, is presented annually to the author of an outstanding essay embodying original historical research on a significant subject of library history. The winning essay will be considered for publication in "Information & Culture: A Journal of History." The award is named in honor of the distinguished 19th century librarian, historian and bibliographer who was also ALA's first president.

LaGuardia named winner of RUSA’s highest honor for achievements in reference services

CHICAGO-- Cheryl LaGuardia, research librarian at the Widener Library of Harvard University, has been awarded the 2016 Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award, RUSA’s highest honor for her distinguished and multifaceted contributions to reference librarianship.

Sponsored by Credo Reference, the award consists of $5,000 and a citation which will be presented at the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando.
