Courtney Young named recipient of the Larry Romans Mentorship Award

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender and Government Documents Round Tables (GLBTRT and GODORT) are proud to announce Courtney Young as the 2018 recipient of the Larry Romans Mentorship Award. 

Gulfport Public Library awarded 2018 GLBTRT Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community

CHICAGO – The American Library Association’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) announced the Gulfport Public Library in Florida as the third recipient of the Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community.

The award was established to honor a library, librarian, library staff member, library board and/or library friends groups who serve the GLBT community. Nominees are judged based on innovation, impact, sustainability and advocacy.

Big Ten Academic Alliance Cooperative Cataloging Partnership receives ALCTS Collaboration Award

CHICAGO—The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) has selected the Big Ten Academic Alliance Cooperative Cataloging Partnership (BTAA CCP) as the recipient of the ALCTS Outstanding Collaboration Citation for 2018.

2018 Cunha-Swartzburg Award to Sandy Nyberg

CHICAGO—The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) Jury for the George Cunha and Susan Swartzburg Preservation Award has selected Sandra "Sandy" Nyberg as the 2018 recipient. ALCTS’ Piercy Award to Alison M. Armstrong

Armstrong, collection management librarian in the McConnell Library at Radford University, the winner of the 2018 Esther J. Piercy Award. NLA Intellectual Freedom Round Table receives the 2017 Gerald Hodges Intellectual Freedom Chapter Relations Award

The Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) announces that the Nebraska Library Association Round Table for Intellectual Freedom is the 2017 recipient of the Gerald Hodges Intellectual Freedom Chapter Relations Award.

AASL Launches Affiliate of the Year Award

CHICAGO – At the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) announced the launch of its new Affiliate of the Year Award. The award recognizes the AASL Affiliate organization most active and dynamic in achieving the goals of AASL at the state and local level. This recognition encourages AASL Affiliates to provide their members community, educational growth, legislative activities and increased involvement at the local, state and national levels.

2018 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award winners announced

CHICAGO — The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) announces the recipients of the 2018 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award – Naugatuck Valley Community College Max R. David W. Lewis named 2018 ACRL Academic/ Research Librarian of the Year

CHICAGO — David W. Lewis, dean of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) University Library, is the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) 2018 Academic/Research Librarian of the Year. The award, sponsored by GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO, recognizes an outstanding member of the library profession who has made a significant national or international contribution to academic/research librarianship and library development.

Debbie Reese to deliver 2019 Arbuthnot Honor Lecture

DENVER — Blogger and educator Debbie Reese, PhD, founder of American Indians in Children's Literature (AICL) blog, will deliver the 2019 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture.
