ALCTS seeking 2014 continuing resources awards candidates

CHICAGO — Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for outstanding achievement and promise in the field of serials and continuing resources.  The awards are presented by the Continuing Resources Section of ALCTS.  One award honors an individual who shows outstanding promise in the field of serials, while the other recognizes an individual whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that the 2014 May Hill Arbuthnot Committee has chosen the University of Minnesota's Children's Literature Research Collections as the site for the 2014 May Hill Honor Lecture featuring Andrea Davis Pinkney.

University of Alberta’s Kirk MacLeod selected as RUSA Spectrum Scholar

CHICAGO — Kirk MacLeod, MLIS candidate in the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta and serials technician for the Government of Alberta, will serve as the Spectrum Scholar for the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of ALA.

Elturk honored as EMIERT Distinguished Librarian at Annual Conference, donates award to organizations

CHICAGO — Ghada Elturk, outreach librarian at the Boulder (Colo.) Public Library, was honored at ALA Annual Conference as the 2013 recipient of the ALA Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) Distinguished Librarian Award. Given biennially, the award recognizes a librarian for outstanding achievement and leadership in serving the community by significant collection building and outreach services and developing creative multicultural materials and programs.

Nominations open for the 2013 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award

NEW YORK – Nominations opened at American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago for the 2013 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award.

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has provided ALA funding to administer the national award for an additional two years, through 2014. The New York Times will continue to support the award through ads in the newspaper and NYTimes.com. It also hosts an event for the winners in December.

Park wins Jesse H. Shera Award for Distinguished Published Research

CHICAGO — The Library Research Round Table (LRRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Sung Jae Park as the winner of the Jesse H. Shera Award for Distinguished Published Research for the article, “Measuring Public Library Accessibility: A Case Study Using GIS,” published in Library & Information Research 34(2012): 13-21, December 2011.

Judith Platt, Sen. Russell Feingold win 2013 FTRF Roll of Honor Awards
