Jeanette Smith receives the 2013 Ken Haycock Award for Promoting Librarianship

CHICAGO — Jeanette C. Smith, the grants/university relations officer at the New Mexico State University Library in Las Cruces, has been selected to receive the 2013 American Library Association Ken Haycock Award for Promoting Librarianship.  This special honor is given annually to an individual for “significant contribution to the public recognition and appreciation of librarianship through professional performance, teaching and/or writing”.

John Cotton Dana public relations awards announced

CHICAGO —  Eight libraries were selected for the 2013 John Cotton Dana Award, honoring outstanding library public relations and marketing with a $10,000 award and plaque.  This award has been given continuously since 1946 and is sponsored by EBSCO, the H.W. Wilson Foundation and the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

Nicola Wilson receives the 2013 Justin Winsor essay award from the Library History Round Table

CHICAGO — The Library History Round Table has awarded Nicola Wilson the 2013 Justin Winsor Prize. The award, $100 and a certificate, is presented annually to the author of an outstanding essay embodying original historical research on a significant subject of library history. The winning essay will be considered for publication in Information & Culture: A Journal of History.

Keith Curry Lance receives AASL Distinguished Service Award

CHICAGO — Keith Curry Lance is the 2013 recipient of the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) Distinguished Service Award. Established in 1978 and sponsored by Baker and Taylor, the award recognizes an individual member of the library profession who has, over a significant period of time, made an outstanding national contribution to school librarianship and school library development.

Dollar General recognized with AASL Crystal Apple

CHICAGO — American Association of School Librarians (AASL) President Susan Ballard has selected Dollar General as the recipient of the 2013 Crystal Apple. The Crystal Apple honor is given at the discretion of the AASL president to an individual or group that has had a significant impact on school library programs and students.

Princeton Public Library wins the ALA/Information Today, Inc. Library of the Future Award

CHICAGO — The American Library Association has named the Community Collaboration for Enhanced Technology Services at the Princeton (N.J.) Public Library the 2013 winner of the ALA/Information Today, Inc. Library of the Future Award. This award is presented annually to a library that demonstrates innovative planning and development of patron training programs about information technology in a library setting.

YALSA announces Excellence in Library Services to Young Adults 2012 Program Award Winners

CHICAGO  —  The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, selected 25 innovative teen programs to be featured at the 2013 ALA Annual Conference and included in a sixth edition of "Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults." These successful programs focus on addressing new or ongoing teen needs or interests in innovative or unique ways. 

Kathleen Reif, director St. Mary’s County (Md.) Library, receives 2013 Sullivan Award

CHICAGO— The American Library Association has awarded the 2013 Peggy Sullivan Award for Public Library Administrators Supporting Services to Children to Kathleen Reif, director of St. Mary’s County Library, Leonardtown, Md.  The Sullivan Award is presented annually to an individual in a library administrator role who has shown exceptional understanding and support of public library service to children.
