Swanson Best of LRTS Award to Kelly J. Thompson

CHICAGO—Kelly J. Thompson, metadata analyst librarian at the University of Minnesota Libraries, has been awarded the 2017 Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award for the article, “More Than a Name: A Content Analysis of Name Authority Records for Authors Who Self-Identify as Trans,” published in Library Resources & Technical Services (LRTS), volume 60, number 3, July 2016, pages 140-155.

Hale monograph wins ALCTS Outstanding Publication Award

CHICAGO—The recipient of the 2017 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Outstanding Publication Award is Dawn Hale for her edited volume, “Shared Collections: Collaborative Stewardship“ (ALA Editions, 2016).

ALSC announces 2017 Notable Children's Videos

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has selected its 2017 list of Notable Children’s Videos. The list includes videos for children 14 years of age and younger that exhibit especially commendable quality, show respect for children’s intelligence and imagination and reflect and encourage the interests of children in exemplary ways.

2017 Notable Videos for Adults announced

ATLANTA – The American Library Association (ALA) Video Round Table Notable Videos for Adults Committee has compiled its 2017 list of Notable Videos for Adults, a list of 15 outstanding films released on video within the past two years and suitable for all libraries serving adults.  Its purpose is to call attention to recent video releases that make a significant contribution to the world of video.  The list is compiled for use by librarians and the general adult populace.

'The Underground Railroad,' 'Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,' receive 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

ATLANTA - The American Library Association selects “The Underground Railroad,” by Colson Whitehead, published by Doubleday, Penguin Random House LLC, as the winner of the 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,” by Matthew Desmond, published by Crown, Penguin Random House LLC, as the winner of the 2017 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction.  The selections were announced this evening during the RUSA Book and Media Awards Ceremony and Reception that are part of the ALA Midwinter Mee

American Library Association announces 2017 youth media award winners

ATLANTA - The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the top books, video and audio books for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards – at its Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

A list of all the 2017 award winners follows:

John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature:
