Booklist’s 2020 Top of the List and Editors’ Choice announced

CHICAGO — Every January, Booklist publishes Editors’ Choice: lists of the best adult and youth books, and audiobooks of the past year. From these lists, we further select what we call the Top of the List: the single best title in seven categories—adult fiction, adult nonfiction, youth fiction, youth nonfiction, youth picture book, and adult and youth audiobooks. For the first time, Booklist will name Top of the List winners for Graphic Novels for Adult and Youth. 

YALSA announces 2021 William C. Morris finalists

CHICAGO – The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2021 William C. Morris Award, which honors the year’s best books written for young adults by a previously unpublished author.

YALSA announces 2021 Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults Award finalists

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2021 Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults Award, which honors the best nonfiction books written for young adults between November 1, 2019 and October 31, 2020.

ALA unveils shortlist for 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO – The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the six books shortlisted for the esteemed Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, awarded for the previous year's best fiction and nonfiction books written for adult readers and published in the United States.

Longlist for 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction announced

CHICAGO – A total of 46 books (26 fiction, 20 nonfiction) has been selected for the longlist for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction. The list is now available on the awards’ website. The six-title shortlist—three each for the fiction and nonfiction medals—will be chosen from longlist titles and announced on November 17, 2020.

Applications open for 2021 AASL awards

CHICAGO – Applications for the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 2021 awards are now available. AASL members are encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves to be lauded for their outstanding talent and dedication to the profession as part of this prestigious awards program. AASL awards and grants recognize excellence and showcase best practices in the school library field in categories that include collaboration, leadership, and innovation.

AASL announces Best Digital Tools for Teaching & Learning

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has released its inaugural list of Best Digital Tools for Teaching & Learning. Best Digital Tools combines the previously separate lists of Best Apps and Best Websites for Teaching & Learning. The new list follows the evolution of technology as websites develop apps and resources are produced which are not easily classified in either platform. By moving to Best Digital Tools, AASL can recognize the depth and breadth of resources available to educators.

Celebrate YALSA’s 2020 book award winners virtually

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association invites everyone to celebrate its 2020 book award winners virtually. YALSA’s book award celebrations were originally to take place at ALA’s now canceled 2020 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. 

The Alex Awards were the first award to be celebrated virtually and featured a Q&A session with the winning authors. View the recording from the June 11th celebration.
