The Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) Program seeks agreements with LTA programs

CHICAGO —The American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA) has announced that the Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) Program is offering to work with college programs (commonly known as LTA programs) for Library Support Staff.  The purpose of this project is to develop agreements that would allow college graduates to receive the LSSC without having to further demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Survey results indicate salaries for librarians in 2012 flat – and in some cases lower

CHICAGO — According to results of the newly-released 2012 ALA-APA Salary Survey: Librarian – Public and Academic, with a less than 1 percent increase, salaries for librarians are basically flat. Survey responses from public and academic libraries in all 50 states and the District of Columbia indicate that salaries range from a low of $22,000 in public libraries to a high of more than $258,000, with the highest salary earners being library directors in university libraries.

ALA-APA recognizes Three Rivers Community College and Doña Ana Community College graduates

CHICAGO — The American Library Association-Allied Professional Association (ALA-APA) announced today that it has completed agreements with the Three Rivers Community College, in Connecticut, and with the New Mexico’s State University-Doña Ana Community College.  This agreement will allow graduates of their library science programs, who meet the established criteria, to receive the Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) designation.

ALA-APA announces financial assistance for LSSC candidates

CHICAGO — The Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC) Program announced today that it is offering $200 subsidies for 75 candidates to complete LSSC approved courses. LSSC is a national, voluntary certification program administered by the American Library Association-Allied Profession Association (ALA-APA).
