Networking event hosted by ALA JobLIST Placement Center at ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO — As part of its continuing efforts to help job seekers and employers make connections, the ALA JobLIST Placement Center will host an Open House/Job Fair from 10:30 a.m. – noon on Sunday, June 28 from in the JobLIST Placement Center during the ALA 2015 Annual Conference in San Francisco.  The JobLIST Placement Center will be located in the Moscone convention Center – 104N.

Accepting appointments for career counseling at ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO — During the upcoming American Library Association’s (ALA) 2015 Annual Conference in San Francisco, the ALA JobLIST Placement Center will provide complimentary career counseling sessions.  Confidential sessions will be conducted from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 and 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.  Sign-up now.

ALA President Courtney Young selects 22 chapters to participate in career development facilitator training

CHICAGO — American Library Association (ALA) President Courtney Young will partner with ALA Chapters to provide training for a national cohort of 22 librarians from a cross section of libraries to become certified Career Development Facilitators (CDF).  President Young stated, "I am grateful for the strong interest from the chapters in partnering with me on this program. It was inspiring and heartwarming to read all of the applications.

Applications being accepted for 2015 class of ALA Emerging Leaders

CHICAGO The American Library Association (ALA) is now accepting applications for the 2015 class of Emerging Leaders.  Details on the program criteria as well as a link to the application can be found on the Emerging Leaders Web page

The deadline to apply is Aug. 1, 2014.

Dobbins selected as the 2014 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship recipient

CHICAGO The American Library Association (ALA) has selected Elizabeth June-Heline Dobbins of Fuquay Varina, N.C., as the recipient of the 2014 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship, named for an active ALA member and former member of the ALA Council, is awarded to a library support staff member pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies.  The scholarship was established with funds donated by Leisner.

CHICAGO An exciting new service is coming to the ALA JobLIST Placement Center during the ALA 2014 Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

Kate Tkacik selected as NMRT's 2014 Emerging Leader recipient

CHICAGO - The New Members Round Table (NMRT) announced Kate Tkacik as its representative in the 2014 Emerging Leaders program. Tkacik is currently working as a business librarian with the Bank of Montreal Business Research Group in Chicago.

ALA 2014 Scholarship online application now available

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) has more than $300,000 for students who are studying library science or school library media at the master's degree level.  Scholarships typically range from $1,500 to $7,000 per student per year.  The application and instructions are available online at The application deadline is March 1, 2014.

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Scholarship Program is announcing the scholarship recipients for 2013-2014.  Recipients were selected for the following categories: General, Support Staff and Specialty or Practice area, in children’s services, new media and federal librarianship.
