ALA Office for Diversity extends deadline for research grant proposals

CHICAGO The American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity has extended its deadline for proposals for its 2014 Diversity Research Grants from April 30 to May 16, 2014.  Applicants must be current ALA members, and 2014 proposals may concentrate on any diversity topic that addresses critical gaps in the knowledge of diversity issues within library and information science, including the recruitment and promotion of diverse individuals within the profession or the provision of library services to diverse populations,

ALA Office for Diversity calls for 2014-2015 Diversity Research Grant proposals

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity seeks proposals for its Diversity Research Grant program.  Applications may address any diversity topic, including the recruitment and promotion of diverse individuals within the profession or the provision of library services to diverse populations, which addresses critical gaps in the knowledge of diversity issues within library and information science.

The application deadline is April 30, 2014. Applicants must be current ALA members. 

ALA awards 2013 Diversity Research Grants

CHICAGO - The American Library Association’s Office for Diversity has announced the recipients of the Diversity Research Grants for 2013.

The grants consist of a one-time $2,500 award for original research.  Recipients will conduct their research over the course of the year, are expected to compile the results of their research into a paper and will be asked to present and publish the final product in conjunction with the American Library Association.

NYC librarian swims to raise funds for Spectrum in memory of Elizabeth A. Blatz and Carol Small

CHICAGO — Miriam Tuliao, assistant director for selection at BookOps of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) and The New York Public Library (NYPL), announced that she will participate in the IGLA Championship Open Water Swim to help raise funds for ALA’s Spectrum Scholarship Program and promote diversity in libraries.  The event, to be held Aug. 18, 2013, is a two-mile open water swim taking place in Lake Washington off the coast of Mercer Island.

Michelle Harrell Washington appointed director of ALA's Office for Diversity, Office for Literacy and Outreach Services

CHICAGO — Mary W. Ghikas, senior associate executive director, ALA, has announced that Michelle Harrell Washington has been appointed the new director, Office for Diversity (OFD) and Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS), the American Library Association, effective Feb. 11, 2013.
